Joe falls into a torrid affair with Serena, in spite of the fact that he is married to beautiful Claire. He decides to end things with Serena before it's too late, but she is persistent in continuing the affair. Intent on ending whatever is between them he confronts her one day but accidentally kills her. Claire takes solace with Joe's best friend, Sam, while Joe tries to put his life back together and hide the truth about the accident.
